The OpenAI team wanted to make sure it was safe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From there, a lot of new features were released at a blistering pace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Product Market Fit Wasn\u2019t Quite There<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For such an innovative and rapidly growing company, it\u2019s important to remember that every company, no matter how successful, starts at the beginning with trying to find product market fit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aliisa joined OpenAI in 2021 after leaving WalkMe after 3.5 years, going public, and even ringing the bell at NASDAQ.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A friend joined Jasper as president and asked her to run the sales team. After digging into the platform and appreciating its capabilities, she found OpenAI.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She met Sam Altman and was blown away by the audacity of his ambition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sam said he had no idea what sales would look like at OpenAI or how to go to market with their products, but they went for it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She went from managing a huge sales organization to being one of two people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During her first week, she walked in on a meeting and learned they had oversold their license model and needed help undoing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was when she understood they were selling services \u2014 buy a license with OpenAI and meet with the team once a week to solve problems and ideate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It wasn\u2019t a very scalable model, and they ran out of man-hours and services to sell.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reality was product market fit wasn\u2019t quite there yet. And even though it was a consumer product, it fired off a huge demand among Enterprise and businesses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point, ChatGPT was a consumer app and an API, which is how software companies and Enterprises could build tools on top of the models.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Companies started building real products on OpenAI\u2019s API.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OpenAI got out of beta and innovation labs and into users\u2019 hands. It started with chatbots.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discord launched Clyde<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hubspot launched Chatbot<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snapchat launched MyAI<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotify was able to offer better recommendation engines \u2014 AI DJ.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instacart provided conversational grocery shopping \u2014 \u201cI have a three and five-year-old, and here\u2019s what is in my fridge. Now, there are two different products and sales teams and they\u2019re hiring like crazy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re on a rocket ship.
